AUGUST is Asperger Syndrome Awareness Month

Last week, both Mayor Tommy Battle (Huntsville) and Mayor Paul Finley (Madison) signed a proclamation naming August 2010 as Asperger Syndrome Awareness Month. The need for such a proclamation is evident. North Alabama is experiencing a growth in the number of individuals being identified with Aspergers. The need for community awareness will become more evident in the years to come as we try to meet the growing demands for employment and housing issues for our young adults and adults in North Alabama.

A special thank you to Angela Collier who is an Advocate/Consultant/Service Provider in North Alabama for bringing the attention of Aspergers Syndrome to both Mayors with this proclamation.
